Who Wants To Play A Different Game?

I have weird and extremely vivid dreams on the regular. Most are just the garbled craziness of my subconscious sorting through life’s stimuli.

But sometimes I have dreams that are more than just dreams. I wrote down this dream I had a couple years ago, and felt compelled to share it today:

I was in like a frozen food aisle (???) and I was helping to take care of all of these kids that ranged in age from infants to around 8 or 9 years old. And the lady in charge was organizing a game that had something to do with a competition and food (hang with me), but the basic idea was that every kid was competing against each other.

After a short time of playing I was getting frustrated and looked around and could tell that the kids were NOT having fun.

They were frustrated & tired & hopeless & anxious.

And without thinking I spoke up and asked,

Who wants to play a different game?”

And all the kids immediately stopped and raised their hands. I could feel the RELIEF wash over the kids. And I remember thinking that I probably shouldn’t have said anything, that I wasn’t the one in charge and the lady was probably going to be upset that I ruined her little game that she always had the kids play.

And then I woke up.

And God’s truth hit me between the eyes.

We are those kids, playing the enemy’s game and never for a moment questioning it.

The enemy pits us against each other or an imaginary standard that we could never live up to.

We are frustrated, tired, hopeless and anxious, but we feel like we have to play, like we don’t have any other choice.

So I’m asking,

“Who wants to play a different game?”
